Driver detained after car crash near Columbia mall

A man was detained by the Columbia Police Department following a single-vehicle crash near the Columbia mall on Tuesday night.

Emergency crews responded to the wreck around 9:56 p.m. on West Worley Street.

Police officers told ABC 17 News the vehicle was traveling south down Stadium Boulevard when the driver made a right turn onto Worley Street. The man hit the median on Worley and continued to skid across it for several yards while taking out traffic signs.

The man was not hurt in the crash.

Police have not released the identity of the man or why he was detained after the wreck.

ABC 17 News will follow up with the Columbia Police Department to find out why the man was taken into custody and if charges will be filed against him.
