Crash on Route 63 in Maries County closes road between Vienna and Freeburg

A 59 year-old Dixon woman is dead following an early morning crash involving 4 vehicles in Maries County.

The crash report shows that the accident occurred at 5:15 a.m. on US Highway 63, 5 miles north of Vienna. According to the report, a southbound car, driven by 21 year-old Ryan Grayson of Rolla and a northbound car driven by 59 year-old Sheryl Hughes of Dixon struck head on. Hughes’ vehicle then traveled off the right side of the highway. The Grayson vehicle then hit a northbound car driven by 32 year-old Pamela Boyer of Vichy. A 4th car was traveling northbound, driven by 44 year-old Brent Rasmussen of Dixon, then struck debris in the roadway from the other collisions.

There were no injuries listed for the other three drivers, but Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 63 was closed in both directions for several hours until investigators from the Highway Patrol and the Maries County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident.

MoDOT and the Maries County Sheriff’s Office are warning drivers about a crash that has shut down part of Route 63.

MoDOT Central District tweeted about the wreck just after 5:00am.

The tweet says a “Crash on Rte 63 between Freeburg and Vienna has road closed. Detouring traffic on Rte AA and P.”

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office also posted on Facebook about the crash.

It says it’s deputies are on scene of the wreck as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The office says the “Roadway is completely shut down at this time for MSHP to finish the crash reconstruction.”

It says there is not time estimate right now for the road to reopen.
