Sunday rain chance breaks perfect weekend weather trend

After several weekends of perfect weekend weather (by perfect, I mean overall sunny and dry), we finally have a likely chance for rain starting up Sunday evening. Mimicking a similar setup to our latest rain event, we have another cold front digging its way through Mid-Missouri, and with it comes a chance for rain.

Although our atmosphere is trending relatively dry across Mid-Missouri, we do have the chance for rain in two separate waves across the time span of Sunday evening into Monday evening.

The first wave will occur Sunday evening and will trend scattered with the majority of this rain subsiding in areas north and along I-70. There will be the potential for a break overnight Sunday as winds slightly calm, and then strengthen right back up early Monday morning. The reason why the wind is essential for rain is because the wind helps mix the atmosphere. These high winds help instigate the rain chance across Mid-Missouri as low level winds bring in moisture from the gulf.

The second wave of rain will occur Monday evening and will trend in a more scattered fashion across Mid-Missouri. This rain will transition into a more uniform line of rain as the front nears I-44 . The reason for this strengthening rain potential is due to the front and low level winds lining up perfectly; not to mention the low level winds sitting in a better position to bring in more moisture from the Gulf.
