Jefferson City man stabbed in alley, taken to Columbia for treatment

Jefferson City Police responded to the 200 block of Commercial Street for calls of a person who appeared to be stabbed in the alley Sunday night.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a male who was suffering from stab wounds and who need medical attention. The suspect of the stabbing, Marquis Jones, a 22-year-old from Jefferson City, was standing nearby and admitted to being involved in an altercation that led to the stabbing.

The knife that was used is in the possession of authorities.

Jones was arrested on charges of second degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Cole County Jail. The victim, a 29-year-old from Jefferson City, was taken to Columbia due to the extent of his injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing, and a motive has not yet been confirmed.
