Five armed robberies in three weeks; no arrests

Several suspects are still at large after five robberies are reported across Columbia in three weeks.

At the beginning of this month, ABC 17 News reported on a robbery that happened on Bethel Church Road. A homeowner answered his door to armed suspects demanding money. Police are still looking for the two men who were last seen in dark clothing.

Just last Wednesday, three robberies happened with a 30 minute span. Starting at the 2200 block of Paw Print Lane at 7:20 p.m., 15 minutes later at the intersection of Clark Lane and Eastwood Drive, and a third on Sapphire Court. Police are still looking for two black men, possibly armed with guns in their 20’s wearing dark clothing.

Monday night on Nikki Way, a female victim said while she was getting out of her vehicle, two black males approached her, one pointing a handgun at her demanding money. The victim said that the suspects took her wallet and fled the scene on foot. The suspects are described as two black males wearing all dark clothing.

Although we don’t know if the same suspects are committing the crimes. According to Chief Myers with Fulton Police, similarities can be common.

” If people or a person is doing that they we do see a lot of similarities,” he said, “I think it’s probably human nature if it works they will keep doing it.”

ABC 17 News looked into the number of robberies that have been reported since October compared to last October, and the numbers are decreasing. In 2016, 569 robberies were reported; in 2015, 594 robberies were reported.

November and December had the highest number of robberies reported.

The Columbia Police Department is asking for anyone with information about these robberies to contact Crimestoppers at (573)875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
