Blunt seeks to secure Senate spot
Seeking his second term in the U.S. Senate, Roy Blunt’s seat remains hotly contested.
Blunt, R – Missouri, was first elected to the Senate in 2010, beating Democrat Robin Carnahan that year. He now faces current Secretary of State Jason Kander, who also served in Missouri’s General Assembly.
Blunt holds a little more than a one point lead, according to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls done in the state.
Blunt, a Springfield native, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1997. He won every election for that seat until 2010, when he ran to replace Kit Bond, keeping the seat in GOP hands since 1986.
Kander has attacked Blunt for his decades of political activity, including his family’s work as lobbyists in Washington, D.C. Blunt, in kind, has connected his opponent to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Blunt will hold his campaign watch party at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield. ABC 17 News will be live at both Sen. Blunt and Kander’s parties starting on ABC 17 News at 5 on KMIZ, and throughout the night.
