Man hospitalized after hitting cow on I-70 in Cooper County and crashing

A 73-year-old was recovering Monday after hitting a cow on Interstate 70 and crashing.

It happened around 11-30 Sunday night on I-70 eastbound in Cooper County, near the 104 mile marker.

A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says 73-year-old Michael Leap hit a cow that was in the roadway, ran off the right side of the road, and ended up in a ditch.

The report says an ambulance took Leap to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of moderate injuries.

Troopers say Leap was wearing a seatbelt. Leap’s vehicle was apparently totaled in the crash.

It’s unclear how the cow ended up in the road.
