Southern Boone County home destroyed in fire

Fire officials said a house in southern Boone County is considered a total loss after a fire Sunday morning.

The Southern Boone Fire Protection District was called to the home in the 2000 block of Highway MM, between Highway 63 and the Missouri River just after 10 a.m.

Barret Glascock, a public information officer for SBFPD, said one man was home at the time of the fire, but was able to make it out safely. A family cat perished in the fire.

Glascock said seven trucks and 23 volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. He said it took crews about 25 minutes to get the fire under control, but firefighters stayed on scene for several hour to monitor hot spots.

The fire marshal is investigating what started the fire. Glascock said at this time, a cause has yet to be determined and it’s still unclear where the fire started.

The Red Cross is providing food, clothing and shelter for the family.
