Jefferson City man dead after falling from a cliff

A Jefferson City man is dead after falling from a cliff in the area of Water Street.

Jefferson City Police responded to a check for well-being call around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, after several pedestrians reported a elderly man calling for help from the ground near railroad tracks in the area of Bolivar Street.

Jefferson City Fire Department, Cole County EMS, and Staff for Life helicopter responded to the scene.

The elderly man was reportedly trimming trees before he lost his footing and fell. Jefferson City Fire Department and EMS used a UTV to transport the man from the area to an ambulance.

The 71 year old man was taken to University Hospital where he eventually died of his injuries.

Authorities have not released any name.
