10th warmest October

The average monthly temperature for October 2016 came in at 62.8 degrees which puts Columbia at the tenth warmest since records began in 1890. The data is from the Columbia Regional Airport.

The warmest days of the month were the 16th and 17th with record high, low temperatures and record high temperatures both days. We had a low of 67 and high of 86 on the 16th and a low of 69 and high of 90 on the 17th which were all recorded in the record books.

Cool air wasn’t very abundant this October but we had a few cool days. The coolest days were the 13th and 20th with a high of 60 and 59 respectively. We didn’t have our first freeze this month although on average we see our first freeze Oct 15-21st. Our coldest low temperature occurred on the mornings of the 13th and 21st with lows of 37 degrees.

October 2016 came in drier than average with only 1.58″ of rain which is 1.73″ below the 30 year average of 3.31″. The greatest 24 hour rainfall amount came in on the 19th to 20th of October with 1.04″ of rain.
