Gov. Nixon reverses $12.1 million in budget cuts

On Wednesday, Gov. Jay Nixon reversed a few budget cuts he made in early September.

He released $12.1 million, including $9 million for public schools.

According to Scott Holste, the Governor’s Communications Director, the decision was made due to a new report from the State Budget Office on Missouri’s continued economic growth. The report showed general revenue in the state had increased 5.8% for the month of September.

“Public education has always been a top priority for Missourians, and the continued solid growth of our economy is making it possible to put this funding into our schools,” Gov. Nixon said.

$6 million was made available for the Foundation Formula for K-12 public schools and $3 million for school transportation.

Holste said Gov. Nixon also released $400,000 for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Neighborhood Initiative to train and work with local Kansas City leaders to revitalize 18 urban neighborhoods.

More than $162 million of budgeted spending is still on hold.
