ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency crews were called to reports of a fire at the Boone County Jail late Monday night.
Sgt. Tracey Cleeton of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department tells ABC 17 News a small fire happened in the laundry room in the administration building of the facility. The emergency sprinkler system extinguished the fire just before 11 p.m.
The administration building is a separate building from where the inmate are housed. Sgt. Cleeton says an inmate may have been in the laundry area when the fire started, but the cause has not been determined. He says no inmates were in danger and no one was injured. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined at this point, but it is suspected to be electrical in nature.
Sgt. Cleeton says in the 13 years he’s been at his post, he’s never seen such a heavy turnout for a fire alarm at the jail. He says they train and practice for similar scenarios at the jail and this response went exactly as practiced.
