Jefferson City’s Project Homeless Connect kicks off Monday
The Second Annual Project Homeless Connect in Jefferson City will take place on Monday starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.
There will be three churches on East Capitol participating in the event. First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and First Christian Church will open their doors at 10 a.m.
The event will offer services such as housing counseling, food and clothing donations, ID’s, medical checkups, career placement, mental health screenings, and much more.
One of the co-chairs of the event says they want to provide as many services to the homeless as possible.
The event is based off a national model of ways to help decrease homelessness in America. The homeless will have immediate access to services that they may not have access to on a daily basis.
Back in 2015, there was more than half a million people who were homeless on any given night. However, from 2014 to 2015 the percentage of those that were homeless was down by 11%.
A volunteer rally for the event will begin at 9:30 at First United Methodist Church.
