Callaway County deputies arrest man for false clown reports

A man accused of lying about seeing clowns in Callaway County is due in court Nov. 4.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to State Road FF Friday morning for a report of two clowns walking along the road carrying guns. Deputies searched the area but did not find anything.

Monday morning deputies responded to another report of a clown near County Roads 245 and 272. The caller claimed a clown came onto private property and attacked a dog with a baseball bat. Deputies searched this area and did not find the reported clown.

Deputies later interviewed 21-year-old Ronald Pace of Auxvasse, who they say made both reports. They say Pace eventually admitted to making the stories up and that he never saw any clowns.

Pace also confessed that the dog from Monday’s report was accidently hit by a car, not by a clown with a baseball bat.

Deputies arrested Pace and booked him into the Callaway County jail. He was released pending his court appearance.
