Tropical Storm Matthew

This morning Tropical Storm Matthew had sustained winds of 65 mph tracking westward slowly at 16 mph. In the next 24-36 hours Matthew is expected to strengthen to a hurricane status, possible impacting Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao on Friday. The Windward Islands could picked up rainfall accumulations of 4″ to 8″ by Thursday night. Rainfall totals of 1″ to 2″ are expected farther to the north into the northern British Islands, including Puerto Rico. Rainfall totals of 1″ to 3″ are expected over Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao through Friday.

It looks like Matthew will track north by Sunday towards Jamaica. There is a lot of uncertainty but it looks to track north, possible still sustaining hurricane status by the time it reaches Cuba and the Bahamas by next Monday and Tuesday. We’ll be updating Matthew as more information comes in. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
