Storm system sends clouds & rain chance into Mid-Missouri

Normally our weather moves in from the west but over the next couple days, clouds will move in from a storm system to the east. We are on the backside of a large storm system which is rotating and nearly stationary over the Ohio Valley. Northerly winds on the west side of this low pressure are are keeping our temperatures mild. Moisture is feeding into this system from the Atlantic and wrapping around it with the upper level winds, causing clouds and rain east of the Mississippi River.

This low pressure area is forecast to drift to the west Friday into Saturday, sending clouds into Mid-Missouri. Clouds will be thicker east of HWY 63, thinning out as you head west where the air will be drier. While moisture will be limited this far west, there could be a few light showers which develop mainly east of HWY 63. Any rain that falls would be light and brief, only adding up to a few hundredths of an inch.

The clouds will keep it cooler Friday and Saturday with afternoon temperatures mostly in the 60s, topping out near 70. The cool, northerly breeze will continue through the weekend with lighter winds Saturday and Sunday as the storm system starts to move off to the northeast.
