Jefferson City middle school student accused of threatening other students

A student from Thomas Jefferson Middle School was taken to the Prenger Family Center Thursday after making a threat against other students, officials said.

According to Jefferson City Public Schools, Thomas Jefferson Middle School administrators became aware of a situation involving a female eighth-grade student who was threatening the safety and security of other students.

The principal contacted the Jefferson City Police Department’s school resource officer who investigated the report.

Information from students and staff led to quick and appropriate action being taken, administrators said, including the immediate removal of the student from the school by police.

According to JCPS’ school-community relations director, Amy Berendzen, the middle school was never placed on lockdown. Berendzen would not give details on the types of threats or say whether any students were injured.
