Marshall police arrest woman after baby dies from apparent head trauma

UPDATE: Saline County Prosecuting Attorney has charged Lara Lynn Browder with abuse of a child, resulting in death.

Browder’s first court appearance is on September 28.

ORIGINAL: Marshall police say they have arrested a woman on suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child after her eight month old baby died from an apparent head trauma.

Marshall police say officers responded to a call on September 18 about an unresponsive child around 4:30 p.m.

Officers say the child was later pronounced dead at Fitzgibbon Hospital and an autopsy was performed at the University of Missouri.

Police say preliminary results indicated the child died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Marshall police say they then asked the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team to assist in the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, police say they determined the child was in the care, custody, and control of his mother, Lara Browder, age 26, of Marshall, Missouri.

Officers say they then prepared a probable cause statement and sent it to the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for their review/action.

On Friday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Browder on suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.

Police then arrested Browder on the warrant. Officers say Browder is currently held at the Saline County Justice Center on a $500,000 cash only bond.
