Lincoln fires head football coach Mike Jones

Lincoln University fired head football coach Mike Jones, Lincoln Director of Athletics John Moseley announced on Sunday.

“I believe that making this decision now will put us on a path towards reaching those goals,” Mosely said in a statement.

In his statement Moseley also said, ” We are committed to success in all of our athletic programs and we are confident that we will identify and select a head coach that can get us there.”

“We thank Mike for his nearly six years of service to the university and we credit him for taking on the challenge of rebuilding this program,” University president Dr. Kevin Rome also said in a statement. “He has been committed to their academic success and preparing them for life.”

In his tenure at Lincoln, Jones’ teams did not have a winning season and the Blue Tigers have started this season 0-4.

Lincoln appointed assistant coach Lee Johnson as the Interim Head Coach for the rest of the season. The university says it will begin a national search for Jones’ replacement immediately.
