Columbia woman charged with taking drugs to a treatment center

A mid-Missouri woman is accused of trying to sneak heroin into a substance abuse treatment center.

Court documents obtained by ABC 17 News show Jessica Khan, 33, of Columbia was charged Thursday in Boone County with felony introduction of a controlled substance into a correction facility.

A court date hasn’t been scheduled.

Boone County deputies arrested Khan after she was witnessed throwing a syringe filled with heroin inside of an M&M container over a fence at the Reality House in Columbia.

The incident was captured on video.

Reality House workers informed deputies an inmate, Adam Lavergne, 44, of Columbia, found the syringe.

Deputies found the syringe inside the M&M tube and a torn baggie with residue hidden beneath a trash can.

A brown liquid inside of the syringe field tested positive for heroin.

Lavergne told deputies nothing was thrown to him and the syringe was not his, but later said he found an item in a gravel area.

He said he should have turned it over to workers.

Prosecutors charged Lavergne on Sept. 5 in Boone County with felony introduction of controlled substance into a correctional facility.

A preliminary hearing for Lavergne is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11.
