No arrests made in two weekend shootings

As of Monday morning, Columbia police have not made any arrests in two weekend shootings.

The first shooting happened early Saturday morning and damaged several cars on Mulberry Road in northeast Columbia.

The second happened just over 24 hours later near Providence and Vandiver. A man spoke with police and told them two people in two cars were shooting at his car. He told police they followed him to the Creasy Springs area and continued shooting.

Police found shell casings at all of these locations.

ABC 17 News spoke with residents in the Mulberry Road neighborhood. They did not want to speak on camera in fear of retaliation. One resident said he’d be risking his family’s safety if he spoke to news crews about the violence.

A resident nearby is actively trying to sell her home after leaving in the area for seven years. She said she calls police often and it can take up to 45 minutes for them to respond sometimes. She said she’s seen shootings and fights, and has had property damage done to her done.

Another resident told ABC 17 News she will sometimes not walk her dog at night because of the violence.

While no arrests have been made in the most recent shootings, Columbia police have made some arrests in previous shootings this year

In July, CPD arrested James Hanton in connection to ashooting on Demaret Drivethat sent one person to the hospital.

Police also made an arrest for the 63/70 connector shooting in April.

However, police have not made any arrests in two out of three homicides this year in Columbia.

Gabrielle Rhodes was shot in April on Sylvan Lane. Police have not arrested anyone for this incident.

Edmund “Ricky” Randolph, Jr. died in June in an apartment on Leeway Drive. It is believed Randolph may have died from a possible drug overdose. We are waiting for final results from the medical examiner’s office. Police have not arrested any suspects in this case.
