Severe storm & flooding threat Friday night

A cold front will slowly move southeast and through the area Friday night. Storms will increase after 7 PM as this front approaches. Storms will develop south of HWY 50 from 5-7 PM and become more numerous by 10 PM mainly south of I-70, forming along along an old outflow boundary from early day storms as lower pressure aloft moves in.

After 10 PM, storms will also increase from the northwest ahead of a cold front. These will be strongest until midnight then weaken as they push southeast overnight. Through the evening, strong to severe storms are possible with the damaging winds of 60 mph or greater the main threat, especially in western Missouri where the chance is slightly higher.

There is also a low chance of a tornado mainly south of HWY 54 where there is a 2% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point. If a tornado develops, it would be weak and short-lived.

Heavy rain is likely tonight and flash flooding is possible, especially where heavy rain has fallen Thursday and Friday morning. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for areas near and south of I-70 where the chance of flooding is greatest. 1-2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts is expected across this area.
