MSHP gearing up for Labor day weekend at the lake

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is gearing up for the holiday weekend, as the nicer weather is expected to draw in larger crowds.

Highway Patrol says more troopers will be out on the water this weekend, as safety will be their top priority.

Sgt. Scott White, with Missouri State Highway Patrol has a few reminders for those on the water this weekend. Always wear a life jacket, always have people in the boat look at the surroundings for large wakes, be mindful of swimming near docks as it could cause electrical shock.

Lake of the Ozarks doesn’t have a speed limit during the daytime, but after the sunsets the speed limit goes down to thirty miles per hour. “Night times are times when we see more crashes, which is why we have the speed limit,” White said.

Although they don’t have set speed limits during the day, Sgt. Scott White says they will still give out citations if you’re going fast.

“If you’re operating a boat at high speeds out there that’s endangering other boaters, you’re going to get stopped and cited. As for speed limit, there is none here at the Lake of the Ozarks,” White said.
