Cole County pursuit ends with teen crashing motorcycle

An 18-year-old Jefferson City man is facing charges after speeding away from deputies on his motorcycle.

Capt. John Wheeler with the Cole County Sheriff’s Department said deputies tried to pull over the driver, Brent Askam, for speeding near Country Club Drive and Highway 50 around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Wheeler said Askam did not stop for deputies and continued to drive away.

The pursuit ended shortly after when Askam crashed his motorcycle into a parked car on Gateway Drive.

He was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Wheeler said deputies found a small amount of marijuana on him.
