Over 100 new laws take effect Sunday

More than 100 news Missouri laws will take effect Sunday.

Among the noteworthy legislation? Tougher ethics policies for elected officials. Now, lawmakers must wait six months after their terms are set to expire before registering as a lobbyist.

Also starting this year, public schools must give students the opportunity to say the Pledge of Allegiance every day rather than just once a week.

Additionally, people under 18 years old are now banned from playing daily fantasy sports.

Legislation was also passed to help fight the opioid epidemic in Mid-Missouri. Now, people can carry a drug to counter heroin overdoses without a prescription.
