Driver in Route K crash involved in crash just minutes prior
UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the driver in Tuesday’s crash on Route K. A crash report filed by Troop F shows Scott Benson, 36, of Columbia, was not wearing a seat belt when he crashed his 1994 Honda Accord.
According to investigators, Benson drove off the right side of the westbound Route K into ditch, where he hit several trees before returning to the road.
University Hospital in Columbia told ABC 17 that Benson is in critical condition.
UPDATE: Investigators say one of the drivers involved in Tuesday’s serious crash on Route K had been involved in a crash on Providence Road just minutes prior.
The Route K crash happened at 9:35 a.m., about 4 minutes after the crash on Providence Road at Nifong Boulevard. In the first crash, one of the drivers apparently rear-ended another vehicle, then drove off and crashed on Route K.
The driver reportedly got serious injuries in the second crash, but their current condition is unavailable. Boone County Fire Protection told ABC 17 News that the driver suffered from head and leg injuries.
ORIGINAL: A collision is blocking traffic on Route K just south of Columbia.
The crash happened at Bethel Church Road shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Boone County Joint Communications reported both lanes of Route K are blocked due to the crash.
Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District told ABC 17 News firefighters cut one person out of one of the vehicles. No information on any injuries has been given.
