One dead after shooting in Jefferson City, suspect in custody

Jefferson City Police confirm one person was shot and killed in the 500 block of Ellis Boulevard Sunday night.

Police were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker said one person is in custody in connection to the shooting. He said preliminary investigation reveals the victim and the suspect knew each other. Shoemaker said it doesn’t appear any other suspects were involved in the shooting, but said they’re not ruling out the possibility of more suspects at this time.

Officers blocked off access to the Hawthorne Parks apartment complex behind the YMCA while they investigated.

Shoemaker said officers also found two firearms on scene.
