Last section of Scott Blvd. set to close
The section of Scott Boulevard between Vawter School Road and Sawgrass/Stone Grove is expected to open around 6 a.m. Monday morning. As that is opening, the section just south, between Sawgrass/Stone Grove and Leighton, will be closing.
The original plan for the Scott Boulevard construction project had the completion date before the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. That way, there would be more access to the new Beulah Ralph Elementary school.
Local residents on Sawgrass Drive and Stone Grove Court will need to access their homes from the north. Leighton residents will continue to access from the south.
Some parents and bus drivers have been using the detour along Route KK/Old Mill Creek Road. And they could be using it for a while longer since the city doesn’t expect the project to be complete until possibly late fall.
The construction team will still be working on the section between Vawter School and Sawgrass/Stone Grove so drivers are urged to use caution while in the construction zone.
A city employee says while there’s still finishing touches needing to be done, there’s no reason for them to keep it closed to local traffic.
