Man taken to hospital for self-inflicted gunshot wound in Columbia

UPDATE (8/20): A sergeant at the Columbia Police Department tells ABC 17 News it was determined the man was taken to the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

ORIGINAL (8/19): Police are trying to determine how one man sent to the hospital was hurt Friday night.

Authorities found the victim, a young black man, in the 1500 block of Sylvan Lane, on the city’s northeast side. However, police said the victim was able to speak with them when they found him, and later took him to a hospital. Sergeant Chad Craig said the injuries are considered non-life threatening, but detectives are still trying to figure out what exactly caused them.
