J’den Cox to wrestle for Bronze in Rio.

Mizzou and USA wrestler J’den Cox will wrestle for an Olympic bronze medal Saturday in the afternoon session starting at 2 p.m.

Cox won his first two matches Saturday morning in the 86 KG weight class.First, No. 9 Cox defeated No. 17 Amarhaly Mahamedau of Belarus, 7-1. Cox then defeated No. 13Alireza Karimimachiani of Iran, 5-1, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinal, Cox lost a closely contested match, 1-2, to No. 4 Selim Yasar from Turkey. In three matches,Cox has yet to let up a takedown.

Cox is a two-time national champion at Mizzou in the 197 weight class. He won four state titles in four different weight classes at Columbia’s Hickman High School.

Hickman is currently hosting a watch party in the Hickman Commons. Kewpie Athletic Director J.D. Coffman says all are welcome to watch and support Cox.
