Jefferson City 911 lines experience technical difficulties

UPDATE 08/18/16 7:37 a.m. – The 911 center for Jefferson City/Cole County is back up and running this morning.

According to Jefferson City Police, the communications center began experiencing audio issues last night around 8:00 p.m.

With incoming calls, callers could not hear the 911 operator, but the 911 operator was able to hear them.

While the city’s information technology workers tired to solve the problem, operators used their own personal cell phones to call back anyone who had issues with their call to the center.

The problem was a software update. IT staff restored the software to its prior older version to avert the issues until the exact problem with the update could be determined.

During the time communications were down, an additional operator was called in to help and a backup line was set up to help prevent missing emergency calls.
