Suspect in custody, named after shooting in Callaway County

UPDATE, 9:27 p.m.: One person was taken into custody after a shooting in Callaway County Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 1:30 p.m. the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the Paradise Lake neighborhood near Portland for a reported shooting.

A male victim, 47, was then located on State Road D near Highway 94 and claimed the shooting was an accident. He had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Jefferson City hospital by Callaway County EMS. He has been released.

Deputies arrested Ryan Fonner, 24,of Portland for unlawful use of a weapon and a narcotics violation. According to the department Fonner was allegedly intoxicated while in possession of the firearm.

Fonner is currently being held in the Callaway County Jail.

According the the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department, Fonner and the victim are acquaintances.

The investigation is ongoing.

Lt. Clay Chism said the victim was taken to a Jefferson City hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the sheriff’s department, the suspect is in custody.
