Crews are expected to lay new asphalt on South Columbia roads this week

Beginning Monday, drivers may see some delays on South Columbia roads as Columbia Public works is asphalt overlaying.

Their street maintenance tactic is designed to keep up the roads so they do not have to do as much reconstruction later on.

Crews will work on Southland Drive between Rock Quarry Road and East Nifong Boulevard. They will also work on Buttonwood Drive from the roundabout to just south of Green Meadows Road.

Asphalt overlaying is when the asphalt is laid on the existing street, once its laid down it can be driven on almost immediately.

However, Public Works is advising anyone that can take an alternative route to do so, but crews are only expecting minor delays.

The work is expected to end on August 12th, weather permitting.
