Suspect arrested in connection to early morning car crash

UPDATE: Columbia Police have confirmed to ABC 17 News Travy Botkins was arrested in connection to an incident involving a car crashing into a home.

Officers were dispatched at 3:23 a.m. to the 1700 block of Prathersville Road about a car hitting a building. At 5:40 a.m., officers arrested Botkins in relation to the incident.

The investigation revealed Botkins had taken the car without the owner’s permission. She and the owner knew each other. Police say she then drove the car into the home on Prathersville and left the scene of the crash.

Damage to the home is estimated to be more than $1,000.

She was arrested for leaving the scene and property damage. According to jail records, she is no longer in custody.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police are looking for at least two people after a car crashed into a Boone County home.

It happened around 3:15 Saturday morning in the 1700 block of Prathersville Road.

Fire crews on scene told ABC 17 News the driver of a Chrysler hit the home, causing structural damage. The Boone County Fire Protection District inspected the home and despite the damage, told the family they were safe to stay in the home for the rest of the night.

Law enforcement believes the driver tried backing up after hitting the house. When the driver was backing up, investigators say the car got stuck on a tree stump in the front yard.

The homeowner told law enforcement he saw at least two people running from the area.

Law enforcement was getting conflicting stories about the ownership of the car and a deputy on scene told ABC 17 they are investigating the possibility the car is stolen.

There were no reported injuries.

Police have not released any information about possible suspects.
