Former Osage County sheriff to take over department for now

The Osage County Commission announced Friday that Carl Fowler, who served as sheriff before Michael Dixon, will lead the department until November.

Dixon resigned in May following controversy over an incident in March, in which he allegedly pointed a loaded gun at someone while off duty at a bar in Boone County. Ron Dishman has been leading the sheriff’s department in the meantime, but resigned as interim sheriff this week, citing personal reasons.

Chris Albert and Michael Bonham, who won in this week’s primary elections, are running for Osage County Sheriff in November.
