Incumbent candidates take home victories for state primary races

The Republican incumbent candidate for U.S. Senator was declared the party winner for Tuesday’s primary election before all the votes were officially counted.

The Associated Press called the victory for Roy Blunt (R) about 40 percent of the votes counted.

As of 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, candidate Roy Blunt has collected close to 470,000 votes. He beat out opponents Kristi Nichols, Bernie Mowinski and Ryan Luethy.

Jason Kander, who holds the current Secretary of State position, had about 208,000 votes collected as of 10:45 p.m. Tuesday. He faced off against Chief Wana Dubie, Cori Bush and Robert Mack.

It was a much closer race for the Libertarian party for the U.S. Senate position. Right now, only 323 votes separate Jonathan Dine and Herschel Young for the nomination.

We’ll update this story as results continue to come in.

Mid-Missouri residents also voted on several other state races in Tuesday’s primary election.

Incumbent candidate Sam Graves won the Democratic party nomination beating out opponents Kyle Reid and Christopher Ryan for the U.S. House District 6 seat.

An incumbent candidate also won the nomination for U.S. House District 4. Vicky Hartzler defeated John Webb Tuesday night for the Republican nomination.
