Boone County Joint Communications still hiring

Boone County Joint Communications is still in need of some emergency dispatchers for their current center.

ABC 17 News checked in several months ago about the staffing shortage, and the county says they are still looking for candidates.

Boone County Human Resource Director says they recently posted job openings for joint telecommunications two days ago, and have already received twelve applications.

Jenna Ridel, Boone County Human Resource Director, says staffing levels are better than they were in the past, but several more positions still need to be filled.

Ridel tells ABC 17 News that they have been receiving plenty of applications, but still haven’t found the right candidate. Ridel says filling positions as dispatchers isn’t easy, “a lot of combinations lead to this position being hard to fill.” Including months long hiring process, involving a series of interviews and testing.

The starting pay starts at $15.00 an hour, but Ridel says that isn’t something that deters people from applying, “it’s never something that pays more than another other job, we continue to stay market competitive.”

Boone County Joint Communication is encouraging people to reapply if they weren’t able to meet the minimum requirements the first time.

Once this hiring process is complete around mid-end August, the center hopes to start the next process for the new Joint Communication center.
