One person taken to hospital following crash in east Jefferson City

One person was taken to a Columbia hospital following a four-vehicle crash in eastern Jefferson City Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at the intersection of Shamrock Road and Highway 50 shortly before 4 p.m. Police tell ABC 17 News a Ford Escort was on Moreau River Access Road, the driver waiting to turn left onto Shamrock; at the time, several vehicles were waiting on Shamrock to turn onto Highway 50.

At one point, the driver of the Escort tried to turn left onto Shamrock, just as a Chevrolet Malibu was turning onto Shamrock from Highway 50, and the two vehicles collided. The third and fourth vehicles bumped into each other after the first crash, getting minor damage.

The driver and passenger in the Escort were hurt, with the passenger being taken to University Hospital in Columbia. The driver got minor injuries. No one else involved in the crash was hurt.
