Multiple car break-ins in Columbia
Multiple car break-ins in Columbia hours after each other.
The first car break-in was at The Arc, around 5:42p.m. when Columbia Police Department responded to four cars in the parking lot getting broken into.
The second car break-in was around 8:50p.m. at the parking lot of Gold’s Gym. Several reports of car windows broken, and items taken from several cars.
Brianne Hunter, was one of the victims who had her car broken into at The Arc, on West Ash street. “I went into panic mode, we ran over there and sure enough the passenger window was broken in, my wallet was stolen, dash was open.” Hunter says she believes The Arc was missing one necessity, security cameras.
Hunter says, “he [worker] said it happens all the time… he mentioned nothing of a security camera, and I feel that needs to be addressed by the city.” Hunter also said the officer on duty also mentioned to her that The Arc was an area where a lot of car break-ins happened.
Columbia Police Department says they have no further information at this time, because the investigation is still ongoing.
The Arc is owned by the City of Columbia’s Park and Recreation. ABC 17 News will continue to follow up with the City to see why a security camera isn’t installed there.
