Boone County steps up weekend patrols at fair
Law enforcement is adding more officers to patrol the Boone County Fair in Sturgeon this weekend.
Lt. Lance Robbins with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said they’re expecting a larger crowd for Friday ‘s Demolition Derby and for the tractor pull on Saturday .
“They’re serving alcohol here on the grounds, so we need to make sure that we’re keeping everyone safe,” he said. “We’re serving as much as a deterrent as much as a reactionary force if folks start getting out of hand.”
Lt. Robbins said there will be about eight deputies and four officers from the Sturgeon Police Department at the fairgrounds for the closing weekend.
The Boone County Fire Protection District and the Community Emergency Response Team have also been at the fair all week for any heat-related medical emergencies.
“It’s not just staying safe law enforcement legal-wise. It’s staying safe in the hot weather, it’s staying safe in the crowds, it’s staying safe around large animals, it’s staying safe near machines,” said Lt. Robbins.
Lt. Robbins said they’re also working to keep the small city’s residents safe this weekend as hundreds are expected to attend the fair.
“We’re trying to keep any issues that may develop at the Boone County Fair here at the fair and not have it affect the rest of the town.”
