Boone County Fair opens in Sturgeon for first time

The Boone County Fair opens its gates in Sturgeon for the first time on Tuesday.

The fair board has hosted the fair at the Central Missouri Events Center for more 20 years. However, Boone County is unable to afford maintenance for the facility during the off-season, so now the property sits empty and the fair board had to find a new home.

“All the fair board, we’re just so excited that once we started putting stuff in place, how well it works. We have green grass everywhere. Walking distance is pretty short to go to anything on the fairgrounds. It feels like home here,” Jeff Cook, fair board president, said.

The Boone County Fair’s future is still uncertain. It is unclear where the fair will be next year. Fair board administrators said it could be in Sturgeon again or move back to its previous location.
