Excessive Heat and Humidity This Week
Today marks the start of a long stretch of hot and humid weather for all of Mid-Missouri. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid and upper 90’s throughout the week. Hot temperatures coupled with humid conditions can make for a very uncomfortable, and dangerous situation.
Much of the area west of HWY 63 including Boone, Howard, and Cole counties are under an Excessive Heat Warning lasting all week till 7PM on Friday. These areas under this warning, seen in the magenta color, should expect heat index values, or “feels like temperatures,” to reach upwards from 105-110.
Areas further east of HWY 63 including Callaway county are under a Heat Advisory lasting all week till 7PM Friday as well. With the potential of hotter conditions later this week near Thursday, this advisory may be upgraded to a warning. Heat index values are expected to range from 100-105.
These dangerously hot and humid conditions will persist throughout the week, and special precautions need to be taken for those working or staying outside. Keep the tips below in mind.
Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks away from direct sunlight.
Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing.
Never leave young children or pets alone in your car.
These conditions will persist into the weekend as an upper level ridge remains locked into place. Heat values should be the highest on Thursday and Friday reaching in the upper 100’s and begin to fall by Sunday after the warnings and advisories end.
