Suspects in Indian Hills burglary, shooting identified
Columbia police have identified two men arrested following a burglary and shooting in the Indian Hills neighborhood Tuesday morning.
Investigators say Phillip Warren Jr. forced his way into a home on Navaho Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. Then, as he left the home, Chris Watkins allegedly shot at Warren several times, damaging the former’s vehicle.
According to police, Warren went to the back door of the home on Navaho, where a woman he had a relationship with lives. Warren reportedly went there to get his ID. The woman told police she opened the door a little to talk to Warren, but he forced it open, causing the door to hit her in the face.
At that point, according to the victim, Warren punched her in the face. That’s when she yelled for Watkins, her brother, who was also at the home. Police say Watkins got a handgun and shot at Warren several times. Warren walked away from the scene but was later arrested.
Officers reported finding shell casings in three places, as well as bullet holes in Warren’s vehicle parked outside the home.
Police arrested Warren on suspicion of burglary and domestic assault, and arrested Watkins on suspicion of assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
The incident happened in the same neighborhood where the Columbia Police Department’s Community Outreach Unit will be hosting a BBQ Saturday. ABC 17 News will have crews at that event.
