City says highly unlikely same customers will experience another power outage

Power outages in Southern Columbia seem like they’ve been happening frequently.

ABC 17 News asked what the city is doing to prevent the problem from happening in the future, and they tell us “we are doing everything possible to make sure we are maintaining our systems to not have these problems.”

Columbia Water & Light says one of the biggest causes to power outages is squirrels and other wildlife.

The city says told ABC 17 news that, “the odds of two things happening on one circuit are very very very slim, unfortunately both happened on the same week so there’s not a high likelihood of that happening to the same customers but occasionally we do see that.”

Despite having numerous power outages Columbia Water & Light’s reliability rating is one of the top in the nation, meaning their electricity is available 99.987% of the time.

After every power outage that happens, the City says it holds a monthly meeting to discuss what it can do better.
