Power returned to more than 1,000 south Columbia residents

UPDATE: The power returned to more than 1,000 people in Columbia, after power outages Sunday night.

On Tuesday, Columbia Water and Light confirmed a circuit went down at the Hinkson Creek substation near the MU reactor field off Providence Road. Some equipment failed where the lines head underground north of Green Meadows. The department told ABC 17 News it was very difficult for electric crews to work in the dark and rainy conditions.

ORIGINAL, 7/3/16: Columbia Water and Light is reporting at least 1,045 homes are without power Sunday night in south Columbia.

The outages are affecting residents living within South Providence Road, West Nifong Blvd., to nearly Stadium Blvd.

ABC 17 News has put in calls to Columbia Water and Light officials to see what may have caused the outage and when crews expect power will be restored.
