UPDATE: Police identify victim in Leeway Drive homicide

UPDATE: 6/26/2016, 6:30 a.m.Police have identified Saturday’s homicide victim as 25-year-old Edmund “Ricky” Randolph, Jr.

UPDATE 6/25/2016, 5:20 p.m.: Columbia police are now investigating a young man’s death in north Columbia as a homicide.

Police said the case is just beginning and there are many interviews they have to conduct so for now, the name and cause of death of the victim will not be released.

UPDATE 6/25/2016, 12:20 p.m.: Columbia Police say one man was found dead in the 2900 block of Leeway Drive–and they suspect foul play.

Officers were originally dispatched to the 2900 block of Leeway Drive just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning in response to a call about a person in cardiac arrest.

When officers arrived, they located a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Right now, there is an active crime scene in the area as officers believe foul play may have been involved.

Columbia Police tell ABC 17 News the victim is a young male. They say approximately 15 officers responded to the incident as well as the crime scene investigation unit.

ORIGINAL STORY: Right now, there is a heavy police presence and active crime scene on Leeway Drive near the intersection of Brown Station Road in North Columbia.

ABC 17 News has crews on scene, and we’re actively working to get more information.

Our crews on scene say a crime scene forensic unit is present in addition to three units with the Columbia Police Department. A viewer who called the newsroom also told us police are knocking on doors and asking neighbors questions.

According to the 911 fire and rescue dispatch report, authorities went to 2933 Leeway Drive just before 7 a.m. this morning for a medical response. That home is now surrounded by crime tape, but right now, it’s unclear whether that medical response triggered some sort of investigation.

ABC 17 News will remain on scene and update this story as soon as we are able to speak with authorities.
