Gov. Nixon puts a stop on profiting from ticket fines

Legislation was signed by Gov. Jay Nixon capping cities from profiting from traffic tickets and fines.

This became more of a public issue after the shooting of Michael Brown in August 2014.

Though Brown’s shooting did not involve a traffic stop, it did raise concerns that predominately black communities were being ticketed as a revenue source.

The law, which was signed Friday, adds ordinance violations to a present law that limits profits on traffic tickets.
