Marginal Threat for Storms Today
Conditions are looking favorable for strong and potentially severe thunderstorms to impact areas mainly south of HWY 50 starting up this afternoon and evening, mainly after 2PM. Typically, ingredients of high instability, wind shear, and moisture are needed to fuel strong thunderstorms. Today, we’re lacking the wind shear ingredient which is why we are not under a “Slight” risk today. While instability values will be high, these could produce strong thunderstorms capable of producing 50 mph winds or greater. I’ve highlighted in yellow the areas that have the greatest chance for stronger storms this evening. There will be a chance for scattered storms overnight through 3AM although the severe risk looks to end by 10PM. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
