Suspect in death of Mid-Missouri teen says he has no plans to hire attorney

A suspect charged in the shooting death of Mid-Missouri teenager appeared in court Tuesday.

Travis Clark of California was arraigned Tuesday morning before Judge Peggy Richardson at the Moniteau County Courthouse.

Clark, 22, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon. The second degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges are alternative counts, meaning Clark can only be convicted of one or the other.

Judge Peggy Richardson read the charges to Clark, who remained stoic while standing before her in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit.

He told Judge Richardson he has not spoken to an attorney, and he has no plans to hire one.

Judge Richardson told Clark he needs to fill out paperwork at the jail to request a public defender. She said he needs an attorney and the earliest she could see him next in court is Tuesday, June 21.

Clark is currently being held at the Moniteau County jail without bond.
