Drivers should expect delays with I-70/West Boulevard closure

COLUMBIA, Mo-Starting Sunday at 5 p.m. crews will be replacing the overpass by West Boulevard and building a new two-lane roundabout.

Traffic will have to be restricted or shutdown for 45 days.

This means that drivers will have a lot harder time getting around parts of the Business Loop near I-70.

This is all part of an 18 million dollar project to replace three main bridges.

MODOT has warned that certain areas may be harder to access, but they said most stores in the area have been very understanding about the construction. The Assistant District Engineer, Travis Koestner said, “All the businesses in the area right at I-70 have been great to work with. They are still open, we will have access to those businesses. You will be able to get in and out.”

ABC17 stopped by some of those businesses to see if they were worried about a drop in sales. Most of them were not exactly sure what to expect, but assumed there would be some sort of loss in sales. However, the Days Inn manager was excited about the end result. He said it was going to be easier for customers to turn into the hotel.

MODOT also warns those who typically walk along the Business Loop often to stay away from the construction area. Para Transit will provide rides to anyone who is being affected by construction.
